Making Your Podcast Stand Out

If you are producing a podcast on your own, it is good to make it of high quality so that you can deliver the message the right way. Whether you are a journalist, writer or an expert in a certain subject matter, quality of the podcast determines the response you receive.

With a few tips, you can enhance the sound quality of the podcast without the need to buy new equipment. You can get more help with your podcast by checking out expert recommendations.

Get a Quiet Room with Enough Space

Running a podcast is all about recording via a microphone while reading from a script. Think about anything that might make noise and remove them, because the podcast needs to be clear without any distracting noises.

Use headphones to monitor whatever you are recording. Tune them to make sure the microphone is working before you can start the recording.

You also need to think of the acoustics of the room. Leave enough space around you so that you can minimize noise reflections. Go for a room with hard, flat surfaces.

Use a Windscreen Filter

If you have been to a concert where the person using the microphone does it directly, you might have realized the explosive burst of air that comes out when the user makes the “P” and “B” sounds. They seem as if a giant gust of wind just hit the microphone.

To alleviate this problem, you need to use a sound filter in front of the microphone. If you do not have one, then set up the microphone slightly to the side so that the bursts of air do not reach the diaphragm directly.

Test First

You need to make a test recording to see how it comes out before you do the real thing. You can also compare this with a previous recording in the same setting and see what the output was before you go ahead and start the new recording.

Listen to the recording in an environment where you expect the listeners to be when they listen to the podcast, say a bus, car or in a public place. Use different listening devices and find out how you sound.

You can call in a few friends and let them listen to the podcast so that they give you their view on the same. It is usually good to work with a critical ear so that you do not base fully on your own judgement.
